We saw her briefly and and heard howls from her pack (the Lamars) early that morning, so we knew she was probably still around the area. Then, at 11:30AM she stepped out into the open; looking healthier and more beautiful than ever before. She had a tendency to go out scouting and hunting alone. But she started wandering outside the park and 12 days later she had the terrible misfortune of coming face to face with a hunter, who shot her dead; thus depriving countless visitors to the park an opportunity to see a wolf in the wild - as 926 tended to tolerate the presence of humans much closer than most wolves. |
