In October 2005, the Cougar Creek pack splintered into two separate groups. Two collared wolves (477M and 479M) and 6 uncollared wolves from the original Cougar Creek pack formed the new Cougar Creek II pack. The following spring, 3 pups were born into this pack. Originally this pack’s territory was primarily in the Grayling Creek drainage in the northwest corner of Yellowstone. After August 2006, the pack moved outside the park boundaries and was no longer monitored by park personnel.
